Local Affairs
Performed in 1993, Local Affairs by Richard Harris, was the group’s first (and very successful) attempt at a play. Rehearsals took place in a cold and draughty barn, where the cast were sustained by a constant drinks infusion; and where a temporary set representing three separate rooms in three separate houses was constructed. We transferred to the school for show week, when the stage and set (including fitted wardrobes, tiled splashbacks and running water on tap) were constructed in one Sunday morning!
The audience were entertained by a cast of characters including three sets of neighbours, an interfering mother-in-law, a suicidal old flame, a motor bike enthusiast, and two unlikely characters appearing in a variety of outlandish costumes as they prepared for a fancy dress party.
The production was very well received and provided the impetus and encouragement needed for Haslingfield Little Theatre to embark on it’s regular inclusion of one play a year in its repertoire.
